Oak Beam Bowl.
Recovered from old barn in Somerset after it caught fire! The barn was approximately 300-400 years old. Apart from cleaning dirt and smoke damage from the outside, it has been left in its original state from its existence as a barn beam.
It is quite heavy!

It's got a flat end from where it was cut by Somerset District Council as part of tree management and a crack which developed during turning, filled with woodturners epoxy to maintain integrity.

Richly grained with high contrast between heartwood, sapwood and bark.
Turned from a gifted 'lump' of yew from a fellow woodturner in the Peak District.
The yew tree, in a Peak District village church yard had to undergo some serious 'management'! and the useful bits were rescued from the tree-surgeons chipper.

Turned from a branch point (crotch). The tree had been down a while, and stored with a view to becoming firewood, the resultant crack has been filled with black woodturners epoxy.
The tree had become unstable in a garden in Cheltenham, and I was offered a piece.
